2022 Shayne King

Shayne King

In 1998, our HR Professional of the Year was given only a few months to live after being a cancer diagnosis.

Serving as HR executive for over 20 years, our recipient has had a diverse career from public works, mental health care, and call center. Being told you only have a few months to live allows you to manage empathetically in a variety of situations, including helping a transgender employee cope in the workplace, dealing with a report of bed bugs at a workstation as well as an employee requesting to bring their emotional support tarantella to work. Surviving cancer has led to surviving HR!

Our recipient has been a chapter and state council leader having served as chapter President multiple years, as well as VP of Programs, the ELLA conference committee, and State Council Secretary.

Creating an online application platform in the early part of this century, reducing attrition by creating a people first culture, achieving a goal of zero workers compensation claims as well as onboarding and acquiring 350 new employees across six new locations concurrently are all items that our recipient has accomplished during her career.

Currently working as Director of HR for Birch Tree, she has several HR certifications including PHR, SHRM-SCP and IPMA-SCP from the International Public Management Association.

Shayne King, PHR, SHRM-SCP, IPMA-SCP is our 2022 Human Resource Professional of the Year.
