At the direction of Governor Mike Beebe and led by Arkansas Surgeon General, Dr. Joe Thompson, a massive initiative is underway to reshape the Arkansas health care system to better serve the future needs of our citizens. This effort has been taken up by multiple state agencies and stakeholders for across the state. Included are four interrelated components: strategic planning for a healthy workforce; developing a new payment system that aligns financial incentives with high quality outcomes; expanded use of health information technology; and increasing the number of Arkansans with health care coverage.
